Pat McFadden comments on card payment outages at Co-op and Morrisons

“This is what can happen if we just allow the cash network to wither away. Ministers promised legislation on access to cash a year ago, but nothing has happened.

“Securing access to cash is key to securing the economy. Some people still need cash to manage budgets – and we may all need it as a back up when things go wrong.

“The Treasury must get a grip and bring the key players together - the banks, ATM operators and others - to ensure easy and free to use access to cash for those who need it.”
