Education Committee to hold session with Education Secretary

Following the announcement to close all schools, except to vulnerable children and those of critical workers, the Education Committee is holding a session with the Secretary of State for Education Gavin Williamson MP, and the Permanent Secretary, to look at the process leading up to the decision and what must happen throughout the remainder of the academic year to support children’s learning and well-being.

The Committee will also consider the pressure on teachers and support staff and how they are being supported at this time.

The Committee is expected to consider what role Ofsted and others should have in ensuring children get high-quality remote lessons and what arrangements should be put in place following the decision to cancel exams in 2021. The session may also cover other areas affected such as support for the early years’ sector.
