The new centre will unite partners from Counter Terrorism
Policing, the intelligence agencies, and the criminal justice
system, coordinating their expertise, resource, and
intelligence in a state-of the-art facility.
The Spending Review will commit tens of millions in funding to
the project. The centre, based in London, will be fully
delivered and operational within the next five years, with the
first parts of the building complete and operational as early
as next year.
Chancellor of the Exchequer said:
“Our police and intelligence agencies do an extraordinary
job every day to protect us all from terrorist activity.
“Bringing these partners together to form a world-leading
operations centre will enable them to work more collaboratively
to disrupt threats - allowing the government to deliver on its
first and foremost duty to keep the public safe.”
Home Secretary said:
“We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our police,
intelligence agencies and criminal justice system who work
tirelessly every single day to keep us safe from
terrorism.
“This world-leading new Centre will fully integrate their
wealth of knowledge and expertise to ensure that we are
responding to the range of threats this nation faces as quickly
and effectively as possible.”
The centre will enable the UK to respond more quickly and
effectively to help tackle terrorism and play a key role in
combatting other threats including hostile state activity and
organised crime.
The work to establish the world-leading CT Operations Centre
has been developed over the past year.
The Operational Improvement Review following the 2017 terrorist
attacks highlighted the need for partners and CT Policing to
work more collaboratively, optimising systems and processes as
well as developing new ways of working.
The Government continues to deliver on promises made following
the Fishmongers’ Hall attack last year to strengthen our
response to terrorism.
