Stephen Kinnock responds to disqualification of pro-democracy legislators in Hong Kong

“The decision to disqualify four pro-democracy legislators from the Hong Kong Executive Council is deeply concerning and undermines both the democratic integrity of the territory’s government as well as the right of the people of Hong Kong to elect their own representatives.

“The mass resignation of other pro-democracy lawmakers in solidarity with expelled colleagues reflects the scale of this assault on the democratic freedoms that are protected by the Sino-British Joint Declaration. The UK Government must be categorical in their condemnation of this attempt by the Chinese Government to supress pro-democracy voices in Hong Kong and commit to working with democratic partners to encourage Beijing to reconsider this action.”
