Liz Kendall responds to Care Quality Commission's 'State of Care' report

Liz Kendall MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Social Care, commenting on Care Quality Commission’s ‘State of Care 2019/20’ report, said:

“Social care services were stretched to the limit before Covid-19 struck, but the virus has brutally exposed the urgent problems of underfunding and the lack of a proper workforce plan.

“People with learning disabilities and autism are being particularly badly let down, especially in private sector inpatient units. This is especially worrying during a period where family contact has been reduced or stopped, leaving thousands of people alone in services that aren’t fit for purpose.

“After years of hollow promises the Government must now provide the community support people with learning disabilities and autism need. The Prime Minister must also bring forward a long-term plan for social care reform, a commitment he made more than a year ago but which he has so far failed to deliver. “
