Make UK comments on Prime Minister's speech on skills/lifelong learning

“This is a welcome announcement by the Prime Minister to support lifelong learning, protect existing skills and provide people with an opportunity to learn much needed new skills. Retraining and upskilling individuals in the manufacturing sector will be crucial in the months ahead as we build a workforce fit for the future and bite-sized and flexible learning to acquire higher technical skills is a welcome move to achieving this.

“Industry will also welcome the recognition of the need to place vocational learning on an equal footing with academic routes. To take these plans forward and cement their delivery we would urge the Government to work with industry to develop a coordinated, long-term approach to tackling these structural issues through a National Skills Taskforce. Industry stands ready to play its part.”
