Advance notice: Start of trials for the first hydrogen-powered train in the UK

On Wednesday September 30, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps will mark the start of trials for the first hydrogen-powered train in the UK, funded by DFT’s First of a Kind competition.

He will also confirm that Tees Valley will be named as the UK’s first hydrogen transport hub, and that through the £23m Hydrogen Transport Funding Programme, 19 refuse collection vehicles in Glasgow will be converted to run on hydrogen power with funding for a green hydrogen refuelling station.
