Jo Stevens on Royal Opera House struggles during the pandemic

“The fact that even the iconic Royal Opera House is struggling really highlights the problem facing the industry as a whole. And it’s not just an impressive building in Covent Garden, the ROH employs over 1,000 people and creates work for many freelancers as well.

"The concern is that many of its programmes to make opera more accessible and to bring those without a typical opera background into the industry may be vulnerable as the ROH battles to weather this crisis.

"Like all of our performance venues the ROH needs clearer guidance from Government, a timetable of when it can reopen and targeted sector specific financial support.”
