Chi Onwurah reacts to the news that Royal Mail is to cut 2,000 jobs

Chi Onwurah, Labour's Shadow Postal Affairs Minister, commenting on the news that Royal Mail is to cut 2,000 jobs, said:

“This is very disturbing news and Royal Mail’s employees should not be paying the price for past management mistakes. 

“Royal Mail has struggled in the private sector with a lack of clear leadership and inability to respond to short term market pressures.  

“The pandemic has shown that our universal mail service is needed now more than ever, our Posties are key workers. 

“The Government must have urgent talks with Royal Mail and Ofcom to ensure this critical service has the support, leadership and ownership it needs.”
