ASCL responds to rollout of early career framework

Responding to the rollout of the early career framework for new teachers amid a surge in applications, Geoff Barton, General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, said:

“We welcome the decision to press ahead with the rollout of the early career framework at a time of uncertainty caused by the coronavirus emergency and the subsequent disruption to teacher training programmes.

“The early career framework is an important step in giving more support to new teachers and thereby improving the retention rate: it is one of the keys to solving teacher shortages.

“Participation in the early roll out, which is voluntary, will enable schools to benefit from the support available as well as providing the necessary feedback to ensure the national roll out in September 2021 is a success.

“We are delighted to see that this comes amidst a surge in the number of applications for teacher training. We wish these trainees well in their courses and future careers, and hope they discover the joy and fulfilment that inspires so many teachers who are doing such a superb job supporting their pupils at this challenging time.”
