Doctor today (Saturday)
pledges to take immediate steps to deal with the scourge of
antisemitism within the , if she is elected as the
next Deputy Leader of the Party.
At the Deputy Leader hustings taking place today in
Liverpool, Doctor Rosena has committed to take five specific
steps:
- Her first major
meeting as Deputy Leader will be with the Jewish Labour Movement.
- She’ll separate the
complaints process from Labour HQ, making it independent.
- She will ensure the
new team review all cases, acting swiftly and expelling
antisemites.
- She will put a time
limit on when cases need to be resolved by (both now and in the
future).
- She will commit to
adopting any and all recommendations proposed by the Equality and
Human Rights Commission resulting from their investigation into
the .
Doctor Rosena has already signed up to the Board of
Deputies of British Jews 10 Pledges for Labour Leadership and
Deputy Leadership candidates to end the antisemitism crisis. She
is also an affiliate member of the Jewish Labour Movement.
Commenting, Doctor
says:
“Antisemitism is a stain on the soul of our great Party. If
I am elected to be Labour’s next Deputy Leader, I will take
immediate and robust action to deal with it. No more excuses, no
more paying lip-service to the Jewish Community. We must
act.
“As Deputy Leader, my first major meeting will be with the
Jewish Labour Movement, who have done so much fantastic work to
confront antisemitism within the . I want them to help me deal
with this problem quickly and conclusively, whilst engaging fully
with the wider Jewish community. I will separate the complaints
process from Labour HQ to make sure it’s fully independent, and
anyone found guilty of antisemitic behaviour or language will be
expelled immediately, with a strict time-limit for when cases
must be resolved by. No more foot-dragging. I will also commit to
adopting every single recommendation made by the Equality and
Human Rights Commission investigation into Labour.
