Notes to editors:
The appointment of the NASUWT General Secretary is, in
common with all trade union general secretary elections, governed
by statutory legislation and the Union’s rules which are
consistent with the legislative provisions.
The National Executive, following a process of an open
application and recruitment process unanimously endorsed Dr
Patrick Roach as their nomination.
There was then a period during which local associations
were able to make nominations for the candidate for NASUWT
General Secretary. At the conclusion of that process there
was no other candidate who had secured the minimum number of
nominations from local associations as required by rule.
Dr Patrick Roach is now General Secretary (Designate) and
will formally take up the post at the Union’s Annual Conference
in April 2020.
