Labour will radically improve the life chances of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds - Angela Rayner

Responding to Education Policy Institute analysis of party manifestos, Angela Rayner, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Education, said:

“Under the Tories, an entire generation are paying the price of deep cuts to Sure Start, schools, and particularly further and adult education. Learners of all ages are shut out of the education they deserve, and it’s clear that the Conservatives will not address this. 

“As this report points out, the Conservative manifesto does not even mention the Pupil Premium, which will leave many school leaders concerned that it could be cut or abolished altogether. Labour is the only Party in this election committed to the school funding needed to support those who need it most. 

“Labour will radically improve the life chances of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds at every stage of their education. From free, high-quality early years education and restoring the Pupil Premium, to bringing back the Education Maintenance Allowance and maintenance grants.”
