Today (Friday) Labour is pledging support for a mass campaign
alongside campaign groups, celebrities, party members and trade
unions to get people registered to vote. The National Voter
Registration Day involves events across the country, including
stalls outside universities and colleges, encouraging people to
register to vote before the midnight deadline on Tuesday 26th
November.
Labour wants to increase national turnout and ensure that
everyone has a chance to have their say on December 12th. The
#RegisterToVote hashtag will be used to build engagement.
Activists will upload short videos explaining why they are voting
and nominating friends to join the campaign.
The drive to increase registration has been a consistent feature
of the Labour campaign, as seen in Jeremy Corbyn’s decision to
end his ITV debate with with a call for people to
register to vote.
Labour is running a positive campaign with a vision to transform
all communities. That’s why we are encouraging people to get
registered so that they are able to have their say on polling day
and elect a Government that will work for the many, not the few.
More than 9 million people are believed to be missing from the
electoral roll or not registered at their current address.
, Leader of the , speaking at a campaign visit
to Stoke, will say:
“This is the most important election for a generation. To achieve
real change, I’m calling on people to take just 5 minutes to get
registered so they can make sure that their voice is heard.
"Over 9 million eligible voters are still not registered to vote
– that’s one sixth of the voting population.
"That’s why today we are supporting National Voter Registration
Day. We want to make the next 5 days the biggest voter
registration drive that our country has ever seen."

The Conservatives can’t be trusted when it comes to electoral
reform. Their introduction of individual registration in 2014 led
to almost 1 million names being removed from the electoral
register.
