Aberdeen South MP has called for urgent
talks with First Aberdeen amid mounting anger at plans to
shake-up city bus services.
The transport giant has unveiled plans to remove the number 8
service and change the routes on others, including the number 18
service. The proposed changes to the 18 will mean it is removed
from the Cove area, and will no longer serve the Tillydrone and
Danestone areas.
Mr Thomson has written to Operations Director David Philips to
point out that many of his constituents rely on the 18 service to
get to medical and dental appointments.
Any changes to the 18 service would affect residents in Altens,
Kincorth, Cove and Charleston.
Mr Thomson also argued that the brief nature of the consultation
period left the impression locally that the changes are being
“rushed through”.
In his letter, he said: “Bus companies are depended upon by
thousands of citizens across Aberdeen.
“For many, it is the only viable means of transport, especially
for those in more vulnerable groups.
“I am disappointed that First Bus has decided that one week is
necessary for the public to give their views.
“To many, this has been perceived as an attempt to rush through
changes that First Aberdeen knows will be deeply unpopular.
“I would welcome the opportunity to meet you at your earliest
convenience to discuss the proposed changes and the concerns of
residents across Aberdeen South.”
