Diane Abbott responds to Onward’s report on scrapping net migration targets

Diane Abbott MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, responding to Onward’s report on scrapping net migration targets, said:

“You can have numerical targets for immigration. Or you can have one based on our obligations and needs. You can’t have both. 

“The government’s numerical targets have never been met and never will be.

“Labour in government will scrap the Tories’ net migration target. We will end the hostile environment.  We will introduce an immigration system that is fair and is in the interests of our economy and community as a whole.”
