Home Affairs Committee to question Minister on progress in implementing the recommendations of the Macpherson Report

In the next oral evidence session for the Committee’s inquiry marking the 20th anniversary of the Macpherson report, the Committee will hear from Rt Hon Nick Hurd MP, Minister of State for Policing and the Fire Service and Minister for London, on the Government’s progress in implementing the recommendations of the Macpherson Report, including steps taken to address that report’s findings on institutional racism in the police, measures taken in respect of the recruitment and retention of BAME officers and staff in the police workforce, police-community relations and stop and search.

Today’s meeting will examine to what extent progress has been made since the Macpherson report, with a particular focus on:

• The Macpherson Report
• Government oversight and accountability of police

• ·         Police workforce ethnic diversity
• ·         Police and community relations
• ·         Holding the police to account

The Committee will also take evidence from Emma Little Pengelly MP, Shadow Democratic Unionist Party Spokesperson (Equality), in the next session for the Committee’s inquiry into Islamophobia.
