Today, has received the support of
Conservative Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) from across the
country to unite the party and keep our communities safe.
12 Conservative PCCs – 60% of the total – have publicly signed a
joint letter saying is the only man who can take
the tough decisions needed to crack down on crime. His record as
London Mayor, where the murder rate was halved during his tenure
and his tough response to the Salisbury chemical weapons attack
show he has the resolve to tackle serious violence head on, they
say.
The PCC also back his plan to end the division they see everyday
in their communities by delivering Brexit by
31st October to unite the party and the country.
PCCs are up for re-election next year so today’s backing is a
clear sign that Conservatives up and down the country see
as the only candidate who can
deliver Brexit, unite the country and defeat ’s
The Police and Crime Commissioners say:
‘As Mayor of London he headed the Office for Policing and
Crime where he showed he can take the tough decisions necessary
to crack down on criminals. By boosting police powers with stop
and search he helped to ensure that crime fell by 20% and the
murder rate fell by 50%.
‘At this moment, with more division in our country than ever
before, we need someone who can unite us and end this Brexit
impasse for good. We also must make sure we keep out of No.10 because he is a
clear and present risk to our security. Only can defeat him.
‘ now has the opportunity to do
what he did for London for every community in this country and
lead the fight against crime so everyone lives in the safety they
need to get on in life. We wholeheartedly endorse him to be our
next Prime Minister’.

Conservatives introduced Police and Crime Commissioners
to put communities in charge so police can do what is right for
their area. Locally elected Police and Crime
Commissioners hold Chief Constables and the force to account,
making the police answerable to the community they serve
(Home Office, accessed 3 July 2019, link).
-
There are 40 PCCs across England, 20 of whom are
Conservative and 12 are openly backing for Conservative Leader and
Prime Minister. (Home Office, accessed 3

The murder rate halved in London under
Boris. According to Full Fact: “In the year
before Mr Johnson became mayor (2007/08), there were 163
recorded homicides, or roughly 21 per million, using population
estimates for the time. In 2014 the rate had reduced to 11 per
million, down by about half, though this had ticked up slightly
to 13 per million in the year from April 2015 to March 2016, Mr
Johnson’s last year in office.” (Full Fact, June
2018, link).
-
Overall crime cut by over 20% under
Boris. According to Met Police data, recorded
offences went down from 862,032 in the year before Boris was
elected (2007/08) to 643,299 in the year after he left office
(2016/17) (Metropolitan Police, link).
-
Knife crime fell by 17% under
Boris. According to Met Police data, there were
12,076 offences of knife crime in 2009 – Boris’ first full year
as Mayor. This had fallen to 9,979 by 2015 – Boris’ last full
year as Mayor, a 17.4% reduction. (Metropolitan Police, FOI,
August 2018, link). (The
release explicitly advises only full calendar years are
comparable, hence a comparison of 2009 with 2015).
-
Boris took 11,000 knives off the
streets. Through the sensitive use of stop and
search, the Met’s Operation Blunt 2 recovered over 11,000
knives (Mayor of London Annual Report, May 2011, link).
