Home Affairs Committee to take evidence on the disadvantages experienced by Muslims in the UK

In the third oral evidence session for its inquiry into Islamophobia, the Home Affairs Committee will be taking evidence on the disadvantages and discrimination experienced by Muslims across a range of areas in society, including education, employment, poverty, and the justice system.

The Committee will also take evidence from the leader of the Scottish National Party’s Westminster Group, Rt Hon Ian Blackford MP.

The session is likely to cover:

• ·         Why British Muslims face low employment and earning rates;
• ·         Barriers to educational progress and attainment;
• ·         Poverty levels amongst the Muslim population;
• ·         Muslim experiences of policing and the prison system;
• ·         Whether Muslim disadvantage amounts to ‘institutional Islamophobia’, and what can be done to tackle this.
