Universal Credit is failing our veterans - Margaret Greenwood

Margaret Greenwood MP, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, responding to a study showing that Universal Credit is failing military veterans, said: 

“This report is shocking evidence that our social security system, and Universal Credit in particular, is failing our veterans.

“People are being sanctioned for trivial reasons and fit for work assessments are often inaccurate and show no understanding of very serious mental health conditions such as PTSD.

“People who have served their country bravely are being let down when they need support as they adjust to civilian life.

“Labour will stop the roll out of Universal Credit, scrap the punitive sanctions regime and work capability assessments and ensure our social security system is there for any one of us when we need it.”
