Concern over Welsh Labour Government’s ability to deliver 'home-made' farming support

“There is real concern amongst the farming community in Wales regarding the Welsh Labour Government’s ability to deliver home-made solutions for the industry, given Labour’s appalling record in other areas of devolved policy such as health, education and the economy.

“Labour’s Minister set out her stall very early on in the ‘Brexit and Our Land’ consultation and it’s now vital that farming communities the length and breadth of Wales see the finer detail, with concerns remaining over the funds that will be made available, the eligibility criteria and protection for the sector from volatility.

“Welsh agriculture compares favourably with our competitors when it comes to greenhouse gas production and it’s imperative a balance is struck between the need to deliver a sustainable environment and produce food for our nation.

“Farming plays a hugely important role in the Welsh economy, particularly in our rural communities, and any new scheme must ensure this continues.”
