Angela Rayner comments on Ofsted’s new Education Inspection Framework

Commenting on the publication of Ofsted’s new Education Inspection Framework, Angela Rayner MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Education, said:

“Labour, along with teachers and school leaders, has long called for major reform of Ofsted. Today’s new framework is a step in the right direction, but there is far more to be done to ensure our inspectorate is working for children, parents, and teachers.

“Too often our high stakes accountability system incentivises teaching to the test instead of teaching a broad and balanced curriculum. Ofsted are right to acknowledge this, and a focus on what children are taught, rather than using crude and often counterproductive performance measures, should help end this.”
