Diane Abbott responds to Windrush compensation announcement

Diane Abbott MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, responding to the announcement of the Windrush compensation scheme, said:

“This compensation scheme has fallen woefully short of its expectation and of what is fair. British citizens have been wrongly deported, prevented from returning home and have lost their jobs at the hands of this government.  

“The government has been disgracefully slow to do the right thing by the Windrush generation. Now it won’t compensate people who were refused re-entry to this country. They are still failing to address this scandal, which will continue until they end the hostile environment.”
