LAAS Statement on Antisemitism Case Interference

Euan Philipps, spokesperson for Labour Against Antisemitism (LAAS):
“The reported revelations that senior Labour officials have apparently interfered with internal antisemitism cases suggests confirmation of corrupt practices within the party that LAAS has long suspected.

 

In April 2018 it was revealed that Jon Lansman was apparently using his influence in NEC meetings to protect Labour members from expulsion, while in August 2018 we showed how influential Far Left figures, such as Michael Calderbank, appeared to be escaping disciplinary action at compliance unit level. 

 

Now we finally have what seems to be hard evidence that resistance to tackling endemic antisemitism goes all the way to the top of the Labour Party.

 

If the Labour Party wishes to survive as a legitimate political body, then there needs to be a fully independent investigation by a credible organisation such as the Equality and Human Rights Commission. There can be no hiding place for racism anywhere in the Labour movement.”
