Home Affairs: Islamophobia inquiry announcement - Updated Terms of Reference and extended deadline

The Home Affairs Committee has extended the deadline for written submissions and amended the associated Terms of Reference for its further work on Islamophobia. The new deadline is Monday 28 January 2019.

The original call for evidence was issued in December, as part of the Committee’s ongoing work on hate crime.

The focus on this issue comes amidst increasing numbers of Islamophobic hate crimes and follows publication of a report by the All Party Parliamentary Group on British Muslims calling for the adoption of an official working definition of Islamophobia.

Terms of Reference

The Committee has already taken evidence on the roles of the print media, social media, and the far-right, and so would welcome further evidence on:

• •              The current extent of Islamophobia in British society;
• •              The impact of official adoption of a definition of Islamophobia;
• •              The role of politics.

Submitting written evidence

The deadline for submissions has been extended to Monday 28 January 2019.
