Macmillan Responds to NHS Long-Term Plan publication in full

Responding to the publication in full of the NHS Long-Term Plan, Dr Fran Woodard, Executive Director of Policy and Impact at Macmillan Cancer Support, says:

“This plan gives us confidence that providing high-quality cancer treatment and care will continue to be a priority for the NHS, thanks to the significant focus on cancer. We welcome the specific measures it puts in place to ensure earlier diagnosis, improved survival outcomes and the focus on personalised care to ensure everyone with cancer gets the right support, which meets their needs.

“However, in order to be able to deliver on these ambitions, priority needs to be given urgently to developing the right health and care workforce, with the right skills, to support people living with cancer into the future. 

“It is essential that we build on the ambitious foundations of the Long Term Plan and put in place a fully funded strategy for the workforce that will deliver truly world-class cancer care, which patients deserve.”
