Tom Brake supports physical activity plan for all students

Tom Brake MP has joined other Parliamentarians in supporting the Youth Sport Trust and their plan for physical education and school sports programmes.

In their newly published plan, the Youth Sport Trust has outlined six goals to invest and engage in physical activity for students in a holistic way.

These recommendations focus on transforming the physical education curriculum to address physical literacy, healthy weight management, and mental health while extending after-school sport programmes and promoting seven active hours of activity a week.

Carshalton & Wallington MP Tom Brake said:

"75% of students indicate that they enjoy physical education lessons at school, yet 4 in 10 secondary schools across England have cut PE hours in the past 5 years.

"We know that evidence indicates that the right level of physical activity for young people contributes to mental health wellbeing while boosting performance in academic subjects.

"The Secretary of State for Education should listen to these findings and the work of the Youth Sport Trust to ensure the wellbeing of our students."
