Louise Haigh MP, Labour’s Shadow Policing and Crime Minister, responding to Sajid Javid abandoning plans to ban high-powered military-grade rifles, said:

“It is staggering that the Government are so weak they can’t even pass laws to ban enormously powerful anti-truck and anti-tank rifles.

“Senior officers have warned the police have no known protection against these destructive weapons and yet Ministers have still caved into their restive backbenchers.

“Labour will back our police on Wednesday and do everything we can to keep the ban in the Bill.”
