Justice Committee inquiry into Prison Population 2022: planning for the future

The Justice Committee is holding its seventh evidence session as part of its inquiry into Prison Population 2022: planning for the future on Wednesday 21 November 2018 at 10.00am in the Thatcher Room, Portcullis House.

The purpose of this session is to examine the current and future pressures on the prison system from the Inspectorate’s perspective, including

• the impact of the strategic and operational approach of the Ministry and HMPPS on the day-to-day running of prisons, including measures to improve safety, decency and rehabilitation;

• the use of the Urgent Notification process and other mechanisms for monitoring prison performance;

• the maintenance and modernisation of the prison estate.
