The Department for Environment, Food & Rural
Affairs and Animal and Plant Health Agency have
published a framework to help local authorities in England
carry out controls under animal health and welfare
legislation.
Details
This framework provides local authorities with a set
of principles to consider when meeting their
obligations under animal health and welfare
legislation (excluding animal establishment
licensing).
The approach is risk-based and can be adapted easily
to suit the unique priorities of local communities
and resources available.
It also recognises the need for effective regulatory
controls across the country to protect against animal
disease and meet the requirements of trading
arrangements.
The framework has been produced in partnership
with Defra, APHA,
the LGA, ACSTO and
the National Animal Health and Welfare Panel.
