Trussell Trust figures show a 13% increase in foodbank use - Margaret Greenwood response

Margaret Greenwood MP, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, responding to new figures from the Trussell Trust which suggest a 13% increase in foodbank use could be linked to Universal Credit, said:

“This Tory Government is leaving people at risk of destitution as more and more people are being forced to rely on food banks.

“Nobody should be left waiting weeks for a payment and the Government must stop the botched rollout of Universal Credit now.

“Labour will end the Tories’ punitive sanctions regime to ensure that our social security system lifts people out of poverty and is there for any of us should we need it.”
