, Member of Parliament for
Harrow East, joined Mitzvah Day organisers in the House of
Commons on Tuesday 16th October to raise awareness of interfaith
projects and social action happening across the country.
Mitzvah Day 2018 is taking place on Sunday 18th November.
· What is a Mitzvah? A Mitzvah is a commandment in Jewish law
however it is often used to mean a good deed or an act of
kindness and that is the basis for Mitzvah Day. It is an integral
part of Jewish life.
· What happens on the day On Mitzvah Day, people give their time,
not money, to make a difference to the community around them.
People are introduced to social action, their neighbours and
local charities
which address real needs. Jewish led, it brings people of other
faiths and of none, to volunteer side by side.
· The vision Guided by the Jewish values of tikkun olam, gemilut
chasadim and tzedek, the vision is of Jews and non-Jews coming
together to build more cohesive neighbourhoods and to strengthen
civil society.
· Values Mitzvah Day is rooted in Jewish values that underpin the
projects and partnerships so that they have a real, lasting
impact
Commenting on the event, said:
‘I have had the pleasure of partaking in Mitzvah Day for many
years. I am looking forward to the events in November and seeing
friends of all faiths giving back to the community.’
