What will a “no-deal” Brexit mean for the UK’s energy market? Lords to ask BEIS Minister

If the UK is unable to reach a Brexit deal, this could impact how the UK meets its climate change requirements; the price that consumers pay for energy; and the supply of nuclear material to the UK. The Committee will ask the Rt Hon Claire Perry MP for an update on the progress that her department has made in preparing for a ‘no deal’.

The evidence session will begin at 1pm in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords. 

The Committee will explore the extent to which the Government is prepared for a ‘no deal’ scenario, including issues such as:

• What assessment BEIS has made of the impact leaving the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) on 29 March 2019 would have on UK greenhouse gas emissions
• How the proposed ‘no deal’ carbon tax would work
• Whether the new electricity trading rules that need to be established in a ‘no deal’ scenario will be agreed in time
• Whether BEIS can guarantee an adequate supply of nuclear material in a ‘no deal’ scenario
