John McDonnell MP responds to weak growth figures

John McDonnell MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, responding to ONS figures showing that the British economy has suffered its weakest six-month growth period since 2011, said:

“Confidence and investment have been deeply undermined by May’s disastrous handling of the Brexit negotiations and by the looming catastrophe of no deal with the EU.

“Eight years of vicious austerity have had an appalling impact on the UK’s growth. International comparisons have put this beyond doubt.

“The IFS recently confirmed that people are on average £800 worse off under the Tories. Labour has set out a radical and credible plan to rebuild our economy for the many not the few.”
