POA: The State of your prisons is still not improving

Richard Burgeon Shadow Secretary of State for Justice recently set out a five-point plan to address drugs and violence in prisons which he has called on the Government to deliver. The POA has welcomed this plan as they continue to work with HMPPS to improve the state of prisons generally. 

Last week there were 21 prisoner on prisoner assaults, 8 prisoners required hospital treatment, in the same period 27 members of staff were the victim of assaults, 12 had to attend A&E for treatment, 2 of the assaults involved potting. 

Last week there were 6 reported deaths in custody.

There were three acts of concerted indiscipline and 30 incidents at height all putting more strain on an overstretched Service.
