It is no wonder that car dependency is growing - McDonald responds to RAC report

Andy McDonald MP, Labour’s Shadow Transport Secretary, commenting on a report by the RAC which has shown that car dependency has increased in the last year, said:

“These figures are a damning indictment of Conservative transport policy. Since 2010, bus funding has been slashed by half, rail fares have soared above inflation as services have deteriorated and cycling and walking have suffered underinvestment, so it is no wonder that car dependency is growing.

“With the UK set to miss its climate change targets and with an air pollution crisis that contributes to 40,000 deaths a year, this failure is unacceptable.

“The next Labour government will rebalance the transport system by prioritising investment in public transport and active travel.”
