A delegation of MEPs from the Special Committee on the
Authorisation of Pesticides will travel to France on Wednesday
and Thursday.
On Wednesday, they will visit the experimental farm “Domaine d’Epoisses” in
Dijon, and meet representatives from France’s Institut National
de Recherche Agronomique (INRA). They will discuss ways to reduce
the use of pesticides, and their effects on soils.
On Thursday, MEPs will discuss cancer prevention with IARC
representatives in Lyon, as well as the principles and procedures
behind IARC Monographs. They will also discuss the evaluation of
data on cancer in humans, animals and mechanisms of
carcinogenicity.
“The objective of this dual mission will be to meet with the
IARC, which raised the alarm on glyphosate, but also to review
the current alternatives with INRA experts” said Special
committee and delegation Chair Eric
Andrieu (S&D, FR).
The delegation will also be composed of MEPs Miroslav
Mikolášik (EPP, SK), Angélique
Delahaye (EPP, FR), Arne
Gericke (ECR, DE), Anja Hazekamp(GUE/NGL,
NL), Bart
Staes (Greens/EFA, BE), and Piernicola
Pedicini (EFDD, IT).
Co-rapporteurs Norbert
Lins (EPP, DE) and Bart Staes are to
publish their draft report on the conclusions of the special
committee’s work later this week.
