LAAS Responds to Today’s Report in the Daily Express: “Labour Party refusing to investigate Jeremy Corbyn over formal antisemitism complaint”

Responding to the report in the Daily Express: Labour Party REFUSING to investigate Jeremy Corbyn over formal ANTI-SEMITISM complaint, Labour Against Antisemitism has issued the following statement:

“Jeremy Corbyn has repeatedly attempted to reassure those concerned about antisemitism in his party that the Labour Party’s disciplinary process would deal with the problem. Under the terms of the Labour Party Rulebook, Mr Corbyn should be subject to the same standards and procedures as every other member.

The report submitted by Labour Against Antisemitism on 25^th August, containing 21 separate instances of antisemitic behaviour including Mr Corbyn’s honouring of the Munich terrorists in 2014 and his ‘British Zionists don’t understand English irony’ comments in 2013, more than warranted investigation. Dan Hogan, who previously worked for Labour’s compliance unit, has publicly stated that in his experience under any other circumstances a member who had made similar comments would have been suspended and investigated.

The failure to subject Mr Corbyn to proper disciplinary scrutiny appears to be another politically motivated intervention in Labour’s disciplinary process to avoid dealing with the problematic track record of the party leader. We demand that the Labour Party revisit its decision to not to investigate Mr Corbyn to protect the moral integrity of the organisations reputation and to uphold the fabric of the party’s internal democracy.”
