Tories have failed to meet their obligations under the Dubs scheme – Diane Abbott

Diane Abbott MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, responding to the Government announcement on lone child refugees in Calais, said:

“The fact that the government has had to announce this new rule today is confirmation that the Government’s immigration policy is not fit for purpose and fails to uphold the right to family life.

“The Tories have failed to meet their obligations under the Dubs scheme and 1,300 children are still left stranded in Calais, vulnerable to exploitation and trafficking. 

“Under Labour, we will not break up families who are entitled to be here. We will protect the right to a family life for all our citizens.”
