POA calls for abolition of Prison Service Pay Review Body (PSPRB) at the TUC 150th Congress

The POA received the support of the TUC and sister unions at the 150^th Congress when they called for the abolition of the Prison Service Pay Review Body and a return to sectoral collective bargaining on pay and related matters.

The clear majority of POA members are restricted from taking any form of industrial action following the introduction of the 1994 Criminal and Justice Order Act. 

The Union is solely reliant on the recommendations of the Governments Pay Review Body and Treasury for any annual pay award.

Steve Gillan General Secretary of the POA said; 

“My members have suffered year on year pay cuts in real terms, as the PSPRB do Governments bidding.

The POA have been prevented from taking any action to improve imposed pay decisions and, treated like modern day slaves.

We respect the views of other Unions who may value their Pay Review Body but the PSPRB have done nothing to instil confidence in the process and acted like Government puppets.

We demand collective bargaining not collective begging.”

The POA has not provided evidence to the PSPRB for more than two years declaring it not fit for purpose.
