Lib Dems slam Gov's lacklustre effort on green vehicles

Commenting on today's announcement by Theresa May regarding zero-emission vehicles, Liberal Democrat Transport Spokesperson Jenny Randerson said:

“This announcement today is lacklustre. The Government are suggesting that Britain will lead the world on phasing out petrol and diesel vehicles, but other countries have already promised to phase them out much sooner than us.

"There also need to fundamental changes in the tax system to encourage EVs, such as restoring the link between emissions and Vehicle Excise Duty.

"Above all Brexit is already dealing a huge blow to our car industry and will undermine attempts to encourage investment in new technologies in Britain.

"Without these fundamental changes Theresa May’s announcement today is only paying lip service to those fighting for cleaner air and against climate change.”
