Euan Philipps spokesperson for Labour Against Antisemitism:
'The resignation of the Labour whip by MP is a further sign that
is failing to get to grips with
the antisemitism crisis that has raged across the summer and
engulfed his party.
At a time when Labour should be providing a strong and credible
opposition to ’s government and fighting
against a hard Brexit, we are instead seeing a senior Labour
figure clash with Mr Corbyn over his handling of a crisis that is
not only shameful but is almost entirely of the leader’s own
making.
Since the general election in 2017 Mr Corbyn has chosen to tread
a path of aggression against the British Jewish community,
allowing a poison to spread that is destroying Labour’s moral and
political integrity and inflaming what was already a grievous
issue within the party. This has led us to a situation where an
MP of the standing of Mr Field, widely respected across the
political spectrum, has had to take a forceful stand that makes
clear the perilous condition of Mr Corbyn’s . We hope he will not be the
last MP to do so.
Things must change: this situation cannot continue. If the
is to retain any semblance of
its once-proud reputation of anti-racism then it is surely time
for Mr Corbyn to do the decent thing and resign.'
