Davey: No-deal Brexit helps criminals

Responding to warnings from the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC) that a no-deal Brexit “could pose significant risks to our local communities”, Liberal Democrat Home Affairs Spokesperson Ed Davey said:

“Senior police leaders have now made explicitly clear what we have known for some time. This incompetent Conservative Government’s pursuit of a destructive hard Brexit is putting our country’s security at grave risk and playing into the hands of criminals.

“Losing the European Arrest Warrant and information-sharing arrangements will make it harder to keep people safe and bring criminals to justice. Yet Theresa May’s chaotic approach to Brexit is making that more likely by the day.

“The Liberal Democrats demand better for our local communities. That is why we are fighting to give the people a say on the final Brexit deal and an Exit from Brexit. We can’t let the Brexiters throw away the tools our police need to keep us safe."
