LAAS statement on the PLP adoption of the IHRA definition

In voting to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism, the PLP have told Labour’s new establishment that enough is enough.

They have given meaning to the values of equality and social justice that once defined the Labour movement, and have asserted the principles of the Macpherson Report, established to ensure the protection of minorities from institutional discrimination.

It is now vital that Labour’s ruling body, the NEC, re-adopts the full IHRA definition and rejects Jennie Formby’s proposed new code of conduct. It is offensive for anyone to claim that they understand discrimination better than the minority experiencing it, yet that is what Jennie Formby appears to be doing through her proposed code. In reality it appears to be a racists charter that will allow Labour’s antisemitism crisis to deepen. The NEC must act as a responsible body that understands the fundamental principles of combating discrimination and dismiss it out of hand.
