Lord Elis-Thomas said: "I'm delighted to announce Lawrence Conway as Chair of Sport Wales. "In his time as Interim chair, Lawrence has provided a renewed confidence and a stable platform to the organisation. His appointment will ensure the important work of implementing and embedding the recommendations of the Ministerial Review into Sport Wales continues apace, and with the utmost professionalism and enthusiasm. "With the new board members also bringing with them a wealth of experience throughout the sporting arena and across sectors, this is a board I am confident can deliver for communities across Wales." The Chair and new members will commence their term of office on 1 September for a three year period. Lawrence Conway said: "I'm really grateful to the Minister for this opportunity, particularly because I've been struck by the passion and commitment of Welsh sport to make a real difference for people in Wales. "The development of the new Vision for Sport in Wales offers fresh drive and opportunities that I want to share beyond sport. Being active and healthy brings benefits across Welsh life and we need to highlight these benefits so that sport and sporting activity can become central to people's lives. "Listening to views and ideas, particular during our recent extensive consultation exercise, has been highly energising and this approach will remain central to our work going forward. "The board has been a source of tremendous insight and support and I thank them all for their effort and commitment to Sport Wales. As the tenure of some of our members comes to an end the new board members will bring their own skills and experience to help take us forward at an exciting time for sport in Wales."
