Andy McDonald responds to rail companies launching a public consultation on train fares

Andy McDonald MP, Labour’s Shadow Transport Secretary, commenting on Britain’s rail companies launching a public consultation on train fares, said:

“The Government and rail industry have been sleep walking on rail fares for years, leaving passengers with scandalously high fares and complicated systems.

“This consultation is long overdue, and the fact is that the fares system cannot be fixed under the current disjointed rail industry structure.

“Only Labour’s plans for a unified railway under public ownership can simplify rail fares and restore public faith and trust in rail.”
