Diane Abbott MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, responding to the HM Inspectorate of Prisons assessment that detainees at Harmondsworth Immigration Removal Centre have been held for up to four years, said:   "The Government claims there is no indefinite immigration detention but holding people for years on end without a release date amounts to exactly that.
