itself under way, losing precious hours. Her Majesty’s Government
were criticised last September for what was perceived to be a slow
response to Hurricane Irma, which caused terrible devastation to
Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands and the Turks and Caicos Islands, which are all, of
course, British overseas territories. It is therefore right that UK
aid organisations and DFID are working hard to shift the focus on
disaster relief and aid from responding to pre-empting and building
resilience in our programme countries, to help them to withstand
the worst of natural disasters, including through the disasters and
emergencies preparedness programme...
