World cannot remain silent on Israeli human rights abuses – Maskey

Sinn Féin MP Paul Maskey has called on the Israeli government to end their automatic military prosecution and imprisonment of Palestinian children.

Paul Maskey MP said:

“The racially charged imprisonment of Palestinian children by the Israeli state, and their prosecution in military courts, is an inhumane practice to be condemned by anyone claiming to support human rights and the rule of law.

“Last week Ahed Tamimi spent her 17^th birthday in the shackles of the Israeli state. Her case has also raised attention to the rights abuses inflicted on around 700 Palestinian children arrested each year.

“The British government, with their refusal to condemn the Israeli state’s military occupation and human rights abuses, are directly culpable in these barbaric practices.

“I am calling on the Irish and British governments to break their silence, and to take a stand against the routine and widespread attacks on the human rights of Palestinian children.”
