HMP & YOI Downview, home to more than 300 women, was found to be a fundamentally safe jail whose progress in recent years made HM Inspectorate of Prisons confident that it would address its areas of weakness.   Most of the women in Downview, a closed female prison in Sutton in Surrey, were serving sentences of over four years at the time of the unannounced inspection in July and August 2017.
